Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
My son D'Var is the brightest, coolest, funniest, most athletic 9 year old I know. He is loved by everyone who meets him, and in our home we call him "The Prince". And he wears his nickname with honor, as it gives him something to live up to everyday. However, as we are all human, he doesn't always put his best foot forward and it reflects in his school work. As an only child, living primarily with his mother and spending one week night and every other weekend with is father he tends to slack off when he feels "he can get away with it." However, when I as his mother, check in on his school work (as I do regularly) I usually find a test, project, or report that he put very little effort into resulting in a low grade. When I have him redo the work he always does 100% better because he gave his full effort.
What are your greatest hopes for your student?
My goal is to get D'Var to be consistent with his work and to take pride in his work at all times, so that when he is not at home he does not slack off because of a lack of supervision or focus. I know having a more structured tutoring program will help the Prince refine the skills he is currently developing, and utilize the skills he already has more efficiently to become an overall more confident better well rounded student. I am so happy I found this program which he can do online from home to help him -- you guys have my full support!
What are you most grateful for?
my family and loved ones
Please describe specifically what your student needs help with.
My son is very bright! He is really good in math, although he may need to brush up on his skills as he enters into 4th grade. However, his weakest subject is reading comprehension due to lack of focus at times. He can read really well, however when he is rushing he does not soak in what he is reading, so I usually have him reread the material until he can give me a brief summary of what he read. Also, he knows how to write and spell very well, however his writing lacks depth and diversity in his finished work. Last but not least, my son does not like to challenge himself -- at times he gets comfortable coasting since he is ahead of most of his classmates in all other subjects.
